Tissa Wewa

Located beside the ancient city of Tissamaharama lies Tissa Wewa, a serene reservoir that reflects Sri Lanka’s early mastery of irrigation and harmony with nature. Built centuries ago by ancient kings, this peaceful body of water continues to nourish both the land and the spirit. As you walk along its banks, the still surface mirrors the sky, broken only by ripples from passing birds or fishermen casting their nets. Tall trees line the edges, offering shade and a sense of calm, while waterbirds glide effortlessly across the wewa.
