Putra Mosque

A Symbol of Islamic Architecture in Putrajaya

The Putra Mosque, located in Malaysia’s administrative capital, Putrajaya, is an architectural masterpiece and one of the most iconic landmarks in the country. Completed in 1999, the mosque is named after Malaysia’s first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj. It seamlessly blends modern Islamic architecture with traditional elements, creating a serene and majestic atmosphere.

Constructed with rose-tinted granite, the mosque’s pink domes stand out against the city’s skyline, making it a visual delight. The mosque features a 116-meter-tall minaret, one of the tallest in Southeast Asia, designed with influences from Moroccan, Persian, and Arab-Islamic styles. Its intricate detailing and ornamental patterns reflect Malaysia’s cultural diversity and craftsmanship.

The main prayer hall, which can accommodate up to 10,000 worshippers, is adorned with elegant chandeliers and carpets that enhance its spiritual ambiance. The mosque also includes a courtyard, known as the Sahn, surrounded by reflective pools that add to its tranquil charm.

Situated next to the picturesque Putrajaya Lake, the Putra Mosque offers stunning views and a peaceful environment for prayer and reflection. Open to visitors outside prayer times, it is a must-visit destination that embodies Malaysia’s rich Islamic heritage and architectural brilliance.
